Customer Questions - Susie

We have a new batch of questions that we hope will give some more needed information on CBD and how it can help with your personal health and wellness journey. Everyone will have their own issues or curiosity and the more questions we can get answered for our customers, the more we feel our customers will know exactly what product they want and in which form.

Why CBD?

CBD is a great tool to add to your health and wellness routine. It has a multitude of benefits and uses that are far reaching due to its ability to work alongside our own endocannabinoid system. One big reason to use CBD at all instead of, or alongside traditional medications is that it does not come with a substantial risk of adverse effects.

Even every day over the counter medications like Tylenol or Ibuprofen can be overused or abused with detrimental if not deadly consequences. It would be extremely hard and expensive to attempt to overdose and abuse CBD. A clinical review showed that even doses up to 1,500mg a day (which is quite a lot) was tolerated quite well.

Is it scientifically proven?

There have been numerous studies on the efficacy of CBD and THC for different ailments. It is up to us as individuals to sift through it all and understand how CBD and THC can be used for us and at what dose would be most effective. This can be a daunting task, which is made easier through quality books that put all the research together for us and breaks it down in a much easier to understand medium.

We have a section under our Educate tab that will provide books that we feel provide quality information for any of those seeking more knowledge in this area. Although we are limited in what we can say regarding CBD and its beneficial uses, we do have the ability to point you to specific studies and research on an issue you are curious about. Be sure to email us at info@gaeahempworks.com to gain further knowledge on questions and issues specific to you and your family!

Will I get high?

CBD does not get you high like THC. It is THC, not CBD, that creates the ‘high-feeling’ that most people associate with cannabis use. It can possibly make you feel mellow, experience less pain, and be more comfortable. Some CBD products do contain small amounts of THC, 0.3% or less.

Is CBD good for my dog?

The endocannabinoid system is found in all living organisms, which of course includes dogs. CBD can be quite useful in keeping your dog healthy as long as you stick to broad spectrum CBD and stay away from products that contain THC. Before you start giving your dog CBD, you may want to consult your veterinarian and be sure that there are no other medications that your dog is taking that could affected by CBD.

There are, sadly, very few trials done specifically on dogs, but reading a post by the American Kennel Club, we see that there can be benefits of using CBD for things like arthritis, itchiness, cancer, seizures, and anecdotal evidence for behavior like anxiety in dogs. Always start with a small dose and work up from there as all dogs are different. A good starting range would be 2mg for every 10 lbs.

Will it make me groggy?

CBD will not make you groggy. During the day it will usually give you a bit of energy. You can still use CBD for sleep if it is done right, with terpenes like linalool and myrcene as well as some CBN or a small amount of THC added. Unlike melatonin or sleep pills, CBD will help restore your circadian rhythm and will only be in your system for 6 to 8 hours.

A study in 2019 showed that participants were reporting shortening their time in bed before sleep from 62 minutes down to only 20 minutes. They also mentioned that they would normally wake up on average 4.3 times a night and this was reduced to only 1.4 times a night. CBD can also help deepen the REM cycle providing a more restful and restorative sleep session.

How does it work?

There is an internal system, the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), that is responsible for many important functions in the body including pain, sleep, stress, mood, metabolism, memory, and homeostasis. CBD can interact with the receptors of the ECS to help bring the body back to a state of “normal”. Disease and disorders normally begin to show up when one of our internal systems is out of balance.

Because the ECS is so wide reaching, this means that CBD has the potential to provide an anti-inflammatory ability, aid with pain management, help with glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, anxiety, depression, etc. There is still a lot of studies going on but most of them are having positive results on what all CBD and even THC can help with.

For what does it work?

While we are not allowed to make any medical claims about CBD or our products, we can take a look at what others are saying. Looking at WebMD they say, “Proponents of CBD oil and other CBD products claim that it can be used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, inflammation, migraines, epilepsy, autoimmune diseases, depression, and anxiety.” There is a lot of research, books, as well as anecdotal evidence and stories that help support these claims.

Forbes Health lists 9 science backed benefits such as: offset anxiety and depression, treat select epilepsy syndromes, reduce PTSD symptoms, treat opioid addiction, alleviate ALS symptoms, relieve unmanageable pain, ease diabetic complications, protect against neurological disease, and inhibit arthritis symptoms. There are a lot of ongoing research as well as some really good book references, sadly right now it is mostly up to the individual person to do their own research and see if CBD is a good fit for their health and wellness program.
